Stephen Hawking

“I think computer viruses should count as life. I think it says something about human nature that the only form of life we have created so far is purely destructive. We’ve created life in our own image.”

Quote of the Week.

The new weekly KAOSE feature

This week: Bill Hicks

“The Supreme Court says pornography is anything without artistic merit that causes sexual thoughts, that’s their definition, essentially. No artistic merit, causes sexual thoughts. Hmm… Sounds like…every commercial on television, doesn’t it? You know, when I see those two twins on that Doublemint commercial? I’m not thinking of gum. I am thinking of chewing, so maybe that’s the connection they’re trying to make.”

Thanks to The Konformist for putting these all in one place.

Zen Habits Moves to Open Source Content.

January 8, 2008 at 2:36 am (BlogNews, entertainment, News, Opinion) (, , , , , , )

Following the path

In a move sure to impress quite a few people (and anger some others, I bet), Zen Habits author Leo Babauta has declared all of his websites content Open Source! In his own words:

I release my copyright on this content.

From now on, there is no need to email me for permission. Use it however you want! Email it, share it, reprint it with or without credit. Change it around, put in a bunch of swear words and attribute them to me. It’s OK. 🙂!!!

To show my appreciation for this move, I:

  • Left a comment on his blog, thanking him for siding with the Open Source movement.
  • Stumbled his blog, and wrote a positive review.
  • Turned off Ad-Block (on his site only) and clicked ALL of his ad links (something I have NEVER done before).
  • And, of course, wrote this blog post, linking back to his site, and the article.
  • I’ll have to think about donating on payday.

I encourage everyone that reads this to head on over to Zen Habits and check out the rest of Leo’s article (which I won’t repost in it’s entirety). He has some great reasons as to why he’s making this move, and I agree with him 100%.

    One last Thing

I also release all of my content on Kaose (https://kaose.wordpress.com) from any and all copyrights, and ask only that any of my content is given credit back to me. You don’t have to, of course, but that really doesn’t bother me (although I’m sure that you, dear reader, will link back, :). I’m not blogging to make money. I’m blogging to make a quality site. Zen Habits has the quality I hope to achieve.

    How’s This For Laugh’s?

January 3, 2008 at 10:40 pm (entertainment, Knowledge, Security)

419 Eater, you’ll laugh till you cry

Not to long ago, I stumbled upon a great site called 419 Eater. This is ton’s of fun. You know those scam emails? The one that tell you that you could get MILLIONS of dollars, if only you’ll send some Nigerian some cash, to free up all the funds? Well, these people have decided to take the fight back to the scammers.

Welcome to the world of scam baiting

Scam baiting is the act of holding email exchanges with scammers as to waste their time (and money, if at all possible) so as to keep them from scamming others. And to try and get “trophies,” pictures and other things, from the scammers, to keep and display to other scam baiter’s. Check out the site, it’s great. 419 Eater: teaching Nigerian that crime does not pay.

P.S. If the site is taking long to respond, it could be because it gets A LOT of DDoS attacks directed its way. Something to do with making scammers lose TONS of time with their antics. I’ve even heard reports of the Storm Worm being called in to attack the site! You know they’re being effective if such a powerful botnet is used against them.
